# Sufler

> Sufler (https://sufler.artemslizhik.com) is a free online teleprompter for recording video. It shows your script one word at a time in a single spot on the screen, right under the camera, so you keep eye contact with the lens while reading. Pace, pauses and emphasis come from markup inside the text, and camera video records right in the browser.

Everything runs locally in the browser: no sign-up, no server, no ads. Nothing is uploaded — text, settings and recorded takes never leave the user's device. The interface is available in English (https://sufler.artemslizhik.com/) and Russian (https://sufler.artemslizhik.com/ru/, where the product is called «Суфлёр»); scripts can be in any language.

## What it is for

- Recording a video, a pitch or a presentation quickly when there is no time to memorize the script
- Keeping eye contact with the camera while reading, instead of scanning lines on the screen

## Features

- One word at a time in a fixed spot; the focus letter (ORP) always stays in the same place, so the eyes don't move even within a word
- Speed in words per minute (60–360) and an estimate of how long the talk will take with the current settings
- Pace markup right in the text: pauses, emphasis, slower and faster passages, stops, stage directions, sections
- Block width, font size and position, an "Under camera" preset, drag-and-drop placement
- Countdown with beeps, Simple and Pro modes, mirror mode for glass teleprompters
- Camera and microphone recording in the browser (MP4 or WebM), camera behind the text, takes with download
- Automatic markup: a prompt for any AI assistant and a Claude skill

## Markup

- `/`, `//`, `///` — short (0.5 s), normal (1 s) and long (2 s) pause
- `[PAUSE 2.5]` — a pause of exact length in seconds
- `[STOP]` — stops until Space is pressed, for example to switch slides
- `*word*` — emphasis: highlighted and shown a little longer
- `[SLOW] … [/SLOW]`, `[FAST] … [/FAST]` — slower (×0.75) or faster (×1.3) passage
- `[any text]` — a stage direction shown above the word, not read aloud, for example `[smile]`
- `# Heading` — a section for jumping between takes, not shown on screen
- Punctuation and blank lines add pauses automatically
